One small step for man, one giant leap for type nerds, it's Erler Dingbats! The new font marks the first time in the history of Unicode that the full encoding range for dingbats (that's U + 2700 through U + 27BF, for those keeping score at home) is covered by a complete, contemporary-quality font. Designed as a special collaboration between Johannes Erler and Henning Skibbe, Erler Dingbats is stocked with useful symbols, including arrows, pens, phones, stars and checkmarks, along with three sets of cameo figures on round backgrounds. The best part? FontShop International has made it available as a free download in a bit to boost Unicode adoption.
