With their nature photography and single-word admonishments—"teamwork" or "achievement"—most motivational posters are painfully literal. But the Advice to Sink in Slowly poster series offers more creatively minded wisdom, such as "Trust your gut instincts" and "It's good to get a little lost." Incoming students at the University College Falmouth arts school receive these life lessons, designed by the school's graduates, as inspiration, but now anyone can order the same charmingly illustrated sentiments online.

Stop annoying your non-designer friends with rants about everyday objects and start channeling your ire into a more productive direction. At RedesignMe.org, you can upload images of offending items and let the site's users suggest improvements. Or put your own skills to work on the existing makeover candidates—ranging from a ChapStick tube to ATM machines. It's a group brainstorm for good design, but only time will tell if this Web 2.0 approach actually leads to better products

Working as an in-house designer is a distinctly different experience than toiling at an agency, but until InSource hit its stride, in-house creatives often struggled to connect with each other. Now the five-year-old organization offers learning and networking opportunities specifically for corporate designers. On Feb. 20, the group hosts "Thinking Inside the Box: How Package Design Innovation Comes from Within" in Madison, N.J. Speakers include Tim Cox, who leads the in-house team behind the clever packaging at Publix Super Markets.
