Sure, Digg.com is helpful for finding out which Britney Spears story is going to deliver the most amusement per word. But when it comes to the topic of design, Digg lumps all the stories into one big pile, which doesn't allow for the zillions of subcategories that truly define the field—ever got stuck poring over interactive stories when all you really wanted was some print inspiration? Design Float is a news aggregator that collects the best design stories and indexes them in a way that makes sense to designers. It's the Digg of design, but better.

David and Helen Lennie are the husband and wife behind legendary Signature Prints, based in Sydney, Australia. In addition to designing and manufacturing their own contemporary patterns, the company has transformed patterns into textiles, wallpapers and art prints and resurrected out-of-print vintage patterns. Recently they've also developed a line of products using the patterns of iconic designer Florence Broadhurst … fitting, since they house the one and only Florence Broadhurst Design Library. It makes sense; she also hailed from Australia.

Abandoning fast-paced lives in New York and Los Angeles, Caitlin and Samuel Dowe-Sandes picked up and moved to Marrakech in June 2006 to live in an exotic and creative environment. Inspired by the cement tiles in their 250-year-old house, they began to sketch designs, and soon a full-scale tile business had bloomed. Popham Design's patterns are inspired by simple slices of Morocco—from the branch of an almond tree to the wheel of a donkey cart—yet they'd feel completely at home in fast-paced lives … like the ones the Dowe-Sandes left behind.
