When the designers at Vancouver firm 10four started work on a custom font, they also wanted to create something that celebrated their Canadian roots. The result, Adanac, is a clever font made up of characters and symbols that represent Canadian culture and history. The capital B is depicted as a beaver, while beer is represented by b; m is both mullet and mosquito. There are also innovations from the First Nations (the term used in Canada for Native Americans) like totem poles. Canada-born John Candy and Neil Young both make appearances, as does the Canadian utterance that no homage would be complete without: "Eh?"

A local firefighter caught in flagrante with a sheep was one news story the folks at Phoenix design firm After Hours Creative couldn't stop discussing around the water cooler. So the designers, known for their irreverent work for the Cartoon Network and GE, turned daily distraction into creative inspiration, making a series of T-shirts based on the wacky weirdness of pop culture. A variety of shirts are now for sale, but it's the illustration of an unwitting sheep that ironically found its way into the news again: When owner Russ Haan wore one to Sundance the cameras were snapping his way.

William Shatner may not be the first name that comes to mind when you think fine art. But the Calgary museum UPPERCASE has collected over 70 works of art that use Shatner's career as inspiration. In roles from James T. Kirk to TJ Hooker, Shatner's larger-than-life persona is depicted in a variety of mediums—even an Enterprise-worthy Lego sculpture. A full-color catalog cleverly weaves Shatner quotes throughout the work. Doug Fraser, Aaron Leighton, Rick Sealock, Mark Todd, Esther Pearl Watson, Martha Rich and Calef Brown are just a few of the artists who boldly go where no artist has gone before.
