After years of having to ask for chopsticks in the only Chinese restaurant in town (a suburb of Chicago) that set its tables with forks and knives, graphic designer Hae Yuon Kim is now taking the request a step further. She’s created a line of greeting cards aimed specifically at Asian Americans celebrating Asian cultures, customs and traditions. The sweet and lovable result, “Chopsticks, Please,” promotes special events like Chut-tol, the Korean celebration of a child’s first birthday, with an all-American sense of humor.

Scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab were researching self-contained environments for astronauts on long-term space flights when they incidentally designed EcoSphere—a self-sustaining aquatic world for domestic use, here on Earth. It looks like a regular fish bowl but doesn’t require filters, feeding, or water changes because there is no opening. All it (and the red shrimp and green algae swimming in it) needs is exposure to light. Watch out sea monkeys: This sea life has an average life span of two to three years.
