When Adrian Hanft isn't art directing at Huebner Petersen in Loveland, Colo., he's at home building cameras out of Legos. And they work! With film-advance knobs that turn, built-in film counters, and viewfinders, these image arrestors are hardly toys. He even creates working shutter systems by rigging ballpoint pens to old floppy discs. Click the pen once; the shutter opens. Click it again and it closes. Be sure to check out his latest creation: a medium-format Pinhole Camera.

Former J. Walter Thompson art director, Virginia Young, and book cover illustrator, Janie Lowe, left their corporate jobs in New York nine years ago to run a custom paint store in Portland, Ore. Now, after much local success, they're presenting their natural palette of paints—YOLO Colorhouse—online. Their poster-size color swatches with real paint and repositionable tape on the back are smart marketing tools. As is their handsome Design Kit—sample cards of all 40 colors.

Just as Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec captured the essence of the commercial landscape of 19th-century Paris in his poster art, BetterWall banners capture the world of contemporary museum promotions. Made of vinyl or heavyweight canvas, these banners have been displayed on streetlamp posts and museum facades in cities across the country and, now cleaned up, are available for private use. It's one clever and prosperous way to keep tons of vinyl out of the landfills.
